Fourteen years after it launched, Anne Arundel County’s business incubator will shut down this summer. County Executive Steve Schuh, a Republican, said he plans to defund the Chesapeake Innovation Center in his next budget for “economic and philosophical” reasons.
In a March 1 letter to the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp., which runs the incubator, Schuh said he would redirect the money currently being spent on emerging businesses to more tax and fee cuts.
“Our administration’s approach is to maintain a level playing field for all participants in our economy and to improve the economic climate by reducing taxes and fees and eliminating unnecessary regulation,” he wrote.
