Big-name CEOs unveil Baltimore-to-Richmond regional group

A group of 17 high-powered CEOs — from Kevin Plank and Ted Leonsis to David Rubenstein and Bill Stromberg — are forming a new organization aimed at spurring economic growth between the often-disconnected region spanning from Baltimore to Washington to Richmond.

The Greater Washington Partnership will focus on improving infrastructure and transit, workforce development, and better branding the region as a hub for business and innovation.

The idea for the group, billed as the first-of-its-kind for Baltimore, D.C. and Richmond, will face an uphill battle to unite the political leaders of two states, Washington and all of the disparate counties and cities within. It enters a crowded field of business groups across the region, including the Greater Baltimore Committee and Greater Washington Board of Trade, among a host of other economic development groups.
