Maryland taps marketing firm to help attract new business to the state

Maryland has tapped a Rockville marketing firm to help in drawing new businesses to the state. HZDG said Tuesday it was picked to lead a campaign as part of the Maryland Marketing Partnership, which was created to attract new businesses, add jobs and boost the state economy.

The partnership was founded as the Maryland Public-Private Partnership Marketing Corp. in 2015 legislation that reorganized the state’s economic development agency. Gov. Larry Hogan identified the members of the organization’s board earlier this year and included $1 million in his 2017 budget to fund the effort, the Business Journal reported in April.

The group was built to promote the state “as the ideal place to start a business, raise a family and enjoy an excellent quality of life,” Hogan said in an April 20 statement. HZDG will develop a brand and strategy to help Maryland move toward this vision, said Maria Kimball, an account director with HZDG involved in the project.
