Horse farming in Maryland generates more than $1.15 billion in economic impact per year, a 23 percent increase from the $930 million the industry generated in 2010, according to a new study.

The report from the Maryland Horse Breeders Association found that the horse industry in Maryland supports 5,800 full-time jobs across Maryland, with nearly $500 million in combined wages and salary income. Spending in the horse industry exceeded $660 million in 2015, the study shows.

The Sage Policy Group, a Baltimore economic consulting group, conducted the report for the breeders association, among several other groups.
