Energy News From CQI Associates – 2016 Temperature Records

Last summer temperatures were on average 2.7 degrees hotter than the 20 year average. Looks like this year may be even hotter.

Last week and this week the utilities have experienced consecutive peak load days. The real feel temperature on Monday exceeded 100 degrees.

We found an article in Scientific American of interest. “First Half of 2016 Blows Away Temperature Records”

Key points from the article include:

  • 2016 is on track to surpass 2015 as the hottest year on record as a result of a strong El Niño and the excess heat in Earth’s atmosphere due to greenhouse gases
  • Every month this year has been a record high month globally, several of which exceeded 1.8 °F higher than average, making a streak of 14 straight record-hot months
  • Year-to-date is 1.89°F above the 20th century average, according to NOAA
