2 Maryland Safeway Stores Set to Close, Cutting Roughly 160 Jobs

Safeway Inc. plans to close two Maryland stores this summer in a move that would cut more than 160 jobs.  Stores at 6300 Central Ave. in Seat Pleasant and 1902 Vier Mills Rd. in Rockville are set to stop operating July 2, according to notices the company filed Thursday with the Maryland Department of Labor under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. A total of 94 employees “will be permanently terminated” from the Seat Pleasant facility, it said, and 70 will lose their jobs from the Rockville site.
