National Aquarium plots ‘complete makeover of the waterfront campus’

A living water-based park with a floating wetland, interactive piers and terraces that lead visitors to the water’s edge of the city’s Inner Harbor are the centerpiece of the National Aquarium’s updated master plan unveiled on Thursday.

The park is planned between piers 3 and 4 outside of the famed waterfront landmark that is 35 years old this year. Initial renderings of its scope are being presented to the city’s Urban Design and Architecture Review Panel on Thursday.

The designs were created by Baltimore architects Ayers Saint Gross Inc., also lead designers of the Waterfront Partnership’s Inner Harbor 2.0 plan that aims to upgrade and modernize the city’s main tourist attraction that is decades old.
