Former Sparrows Point steel mill gets a new name

Goodbye Sparrows Point Terminal. Hello Tradepoint Atlantic.

That’s the new name of the iconic Baltimore County landmark that was once the largest economic hub in the Baltimore region.

Announced today, the new identity aims to move the project “into the 21st Century” as a modernized and global port, rail and commerce center, Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said.

When the new development is built out in a decade, more than 10,000 new jobs are expected to be located at the peninsula after it is converted into an international shipping hub, and an informal extension of the Port of Baltimore. The total cost is expected to be at least $1 billion.
