Paid sick days are nice, but mandate could cost lots of jobs

Requiring businesses to provide paid sick leave to their workers would cost 430,000 jobs over the next 10 years, according to a new study by the NFIB Research Foundation.

The study examined the economic impact if Congress passed the Healthy Families Act(HR 932), legislation that would require employers with 15 or more workers to provide up to 56 hours of paid sick leave a year. Besides the job losses, the mandate would lead to a $652 billion reduction in real output — the goods and services provided by businesses — over the next decade, the study concluded.
