More Caribbean nonstops from BWI are starting this week

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is gearing up to add its next round of flights to the Caribbean.

Starting Friday, low-fare carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle will start nonstop flights to the French Caribbean with twice-weekly service to Martinique. It will add twice-weekly service to Guadeloupe starting Saturday.

Norwegian Air Shuttle is a new airline for BWI.

Last month, another foreign low-fare airline, WOW Air, added flights from BWI to Bristol, England. WOW started service at BWI in May with flights, via Reykjavik, to London. It added service from BWI to Paris, Dublin and Amsterdam in July.

To date, international departures at BWI are up 31 percent from a year ago.

BWI flew 2.19 million passengers in August, up 5 percent from August 2014 and a record passenger count for the month of August.
