Laurel – November 5, 2015: Aging infrastructure plus cold weather equals an increase in water main breaks. That’s a fact, and that’s why WSSC is winter ready.

Next Tuesday, November 10, from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m., WSSC will hold a special demonstration for the media at our Anacostia Depot, 3500 Kenilworth Avenue in Hyattsville. Learn about the Commission’s plan to respond to the hundreds of water main breaks expected this winter and watch a demonstration of a valve being closed and a pipe being repaired.

WSSC maintains 5,647 miles of water mains and a total of 65,022 valves. More than a third of the Commission’s water mains are over 50 years old and the valves required to close those mains are often equally as old.
