Schuh, tourism officials to fly to Cuba

County Executive Steve Schuh and county economic development leaders are flying on the inaugural flight to Cuba from BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport on Wednesday for a three-day trip to establish a relationship with Cuban tourism officials.

“(BWI) is rapidly becoming the gateway to the world,” Schuh said in a press release. “This trip will highlight one of our county’s largest employer’s growing international influence and allow us to begin to build a relationship with an emerging economic market in the Caribbean.”

Schuh is scheduled to return today from Paris, where he went on a personal trip.

BWI is one of about a half dozen airports nationally approved to offer a direct service to Cuba, said Lou Zagarino, who is on the board of directors for the BWI Business Partnership and will also be on the trip.
