Washington university presidents: Region’s economy ‘at an inflection point’ (Video)

The Washington region has to get better at breaking down barriers between universities and the business community if it wants to compete with the likes of Silicon Valley, a collection of Washington university presidents said Wednesday.

“The level of R&D spending in Silicon Valley is roughly equivalent to what it is here. The difference is the level of commercialization of the research and the development that comes out of our two respective regions,” Georgetown University President John DeGioia said.

DeGioia as well as George Washington University President Steven Knapp and George Mason University President Angel Cabrera were addressing The Economic Club of Washington, D.C., on the future of higher education.
