Tuesday, August 4 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Survivorship: Living With and Beyond Cancer – meets to discuss information and support for cancer patients and their families (The Aiello Breast Center, 203 Hospital Drive, Suite B100). For any type of cancer. Reservations are not requested. For more information, call 410-553-8179.

Wednesday, August 5 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Preventing Diabetes – A diabetes educator will lead a one-hour class discussing factors leading to diabetes and explore lifestyle changes to prevent diabetes and improve overall health. The class is free but reservations are requested. To register or for more information, call 410-787-4940. This class will also be offered on Friday, August 14 from 2 to 3 p.m. and Monday, August 24 from 9 to 10 a.m.

Tuesday, August 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The Stroke Support Group meets to discuss stroke recovery and prevention in the Dr. Constantine Padussis Conference Center (301 Hospital Drive, third floor). For more information, call 410-787-4732.

Wednesday, August 12

2 to 3 p.m. – Lactation support group open to all breastfeeding mothers (301 Hospital Drive, 3 South Classroom). Reservations are not requested and children are welcome. For more information please call 410-595-1782.

5:30 to 8 p.m. – UM BWMC offers a free CPR Anytime® community class at 301 Hospital Drive in the Dr. Constantine Padussis Conference Center. Learn basic CPR, AED skills and choking relief. Adult skills class is offered at 5:30 p.m., followed by infant skills at 7 p.m. Pre-registration is requested by calling 410-787-4367.

Thursday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Community vascular screening for those who are 60 and older and are at risk for vascular disease. Brooklyn Park Senior Center (202 Hammonds Lane, Brooklyn Park, MD 21225). For more information or to register, call 410-553-8300.

Monday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to noon

“Look Good, Feel Better – a free program offered by the American Cancer Society in collaboration with the personal Care Products Council, The Perfect Fit by Maria and UM BWMC. Designed for women dealing with hair loss and/or skin changes from cancer treatment. During this workshop, you will learn specific techniques to help make the most of your appearance while undergoing treatment. Pre-registration is requested by calling 1-800-227-2345. (Tate Cancer Center, 305 Hospital Drive, 1st floor conference room).

 Wednesday, August 19 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The University of Maryland Center for Weight Management and Wellness offers a free weight loss education seminar that discusses a comprehensive surgical approach to weight loss. Diabetes Support Group meets to discuss current issues regarding diabetes management (Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology at UM BWMC, 300 Hospital Drive, Suite 223). Reservations are not requested. For more information, call 410-787-4940.

Friday, August 21

9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – American Red Cross Blood Drive sponsored by UM BWMC. To schedule an appointment to make a life-saving donation, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or UM BWMC’s Community Outreach department at 410-553-8103. (Dr. Constantine Padussis Conference Center, 301 Hospital Drive, third floor).

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – UM BWMC will offer Safe Sitter® for pre-teens ages 11-13. Safe Sitter® teaches adolescent babysitters how to nurture and guide young children while in their care. During this one-day class, participants will learn about child care essentials, choking child/infant rescue, preventing problem behavior, introduction to first aid and injury management. Wednesday, August 26

6:30 to 8 p.m. – Mental Health Support Group for community members and families seeking information on psychiatric issues. Meetings are held in Room A of the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) located on the second floor of
