Here’s where Va., Md. rank on the CNBC best states for business list

CNBC’s annual ranking of America’s Top States for Business bumped Virginia down from No. 8 last year to No. 12 this year, and the commonwealth gets bad marks in several key categories.

CNBC’s rankings are based on more than 60 measures of competitiveness.

Virginia’s highest score was for “business friendliness,” ranking No. 3 among 50 states. Its worst two scores were “cost of doing business” at No. 37 and “economy” at No. 36.
