Signers and their representatives gather to celebrate the day.

If you have an investment that is contributing more than $22 billion to Maryland’s economy, much of it right in the Baltimore Washington Corridor, you want to take care of it.

Elected officials and business leaders gathered on June 15 at Reece Crossings to sign the covenant and to recommit themselves to support for Fort Meade. With approximately 52,000 employees, Fort Meade is Maryland’s largest employer and is the third-largest workforce of any Army installation in the U.S. It provides the lion’s share of economic impact for all military installations in Maryland, as shown by the recent Towson University RESI study, found here.

Presentations were made by Linda Greene, 2015 Chair of the Council, along with Garrison Commander Col. Brian Foley and U.S. Congressman John Sarbanes. BWCC President/CEO Walt Townshend is a member of the Council and a signatory to the covenant, representing the organization’s membership.

The covenant commitment is shown below:

Coming together as the Ft. Meade Community Covenant Council, we are dedicated to ensuring that lasting bonds are forged for Ft. George G. Meade. We recognize the great potential for beneficial partnerships, initiatives, programs and events that can connect our communities and enhance the overall well-being of the entire Ft. Meade region.

As a Council, our mission is to provide the Fort Meade military community and those who serve there with the support and resources reflective of their commitment to our nation.  We recognize that the Ft. Meade community as a valued integral component of our region and major contributor to its strength.

Therefore, we the undersigned commit in the spirit of collaboration to build relationships, identify and combine resources, and address critical needs. We will strive through our initiatives, programs and activities to provide the installation the support it so well deserves.
