Gov. Hogan, unsure on the Purple Line, wants to look at high-speed maglev

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who recently delayed his decision on the Purple Line, wants to take a look at maglev to cure the state’s transportation problems

While in the midst of a 12-day trade mission to Asia on Thursday, Hogan announced that the state has applied for $27.8 million in Federal Railroad Administration funds to study a high-speed maglev rail line between Baltimore and Washington.

The funding application supports efforts by the private sector to bring maglev trains to the Northeast region. Baltimore-Washington is the only rail corridor applying for the grant. The Japanese government will be a source of significant financial backing for the project — as much as half the cost — along with private-sector support, according to the governor’s office.
