Maryland Employers’ Paid Sick Leave Bill Won’t Survive This Year

A bill that would have required Maryland employers to offer paid sick leave to workers won’t survive this year. The bill would have mandated that businesses provide employees with up to seven paid sick days each year. Supporters of the bill argued that sick employees don’t want to lessen their paychecks and ultimately can infect co-workers when they come to the office. Yet opponents said that it’s an unfair burden to many businesses. Senator Catherine Pugh, the bill’s sponsor, says she’s still determined to have a paid sick bill enacted next year.
