WSSC chief Jerry N. Johnson announces his retirement

Jerry N. Johnson, general manager of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, said Thursday that he plans to retire from the Maryland water and sewer utility in June.

Johnson, 67, has served as the utility’s chief for 5 1/2 years, overseeing services for nearly 2 million people in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.

Asked why he’s retiring now, Johnson laughed and said: “I’ve been working all my life. It’s just time.”
