Every individual and organization relies on those who come before them, providing leadership and opportunities, tearing down barriers and creating possibilities.

The Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber has developed the Legacy Leader Program, allowing companies to significantly invest in the support and encouragement of businesses—particularly small and minority business—throughout the BWCC’s service area. In addition, the program allows companies to underwrite the work of the BWCC Foundation, for over 20 years a strategic partner in mathematics education as well as opportunities for socio-economically disadvantaged students and post-secondary scholarships for deserving students from selected area high schools.

Our latest Legacy Leader is Southern Management Corporation (SMC), the largest privately owned residential property management company in the Mid-Atlantic region. With more than 74 apartment home communities and some 25,000 apartment homes, SMC owns communities, office centers, hotels and conference centers throughout the Baltimore/Washington area.

SMC also strives, “through community and neighborhood involvement… to build long-term relationships.”

SMC’s support as a Legacy Leader will do just that, and they join a select group of companies who currently are, or have been, Legacy Leaders, to include: Berman Enterprises; Lockheed Martin Corporation; ManTech Corporation International; MGM Resorts; and, Systems Application and Technologies, Inc.

The membership of the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber is grateful to Southern Management Corporation for its investment in services to our regional business community. SMC embodies, as Warren Bennis, the noted scholar on leadership said: “The manager has his eye on the bottom line; the leader has his eye on the horizon.”
