AACC Paralegal Students Learn Maryland’s E-Filing System

Training Was Incorporated into Paralegal Technology Course

Anne Arundel Community College paralegal studies students will be among the first to learn the new e-filing system as part of their training.

Erin Gable, the instructional specialist for the Legal Studies Institute, incorporated e-filing into AACC’s course “Law Office Practice and Technology” (LGS 112) last fall, making AACC the first college in the state offering that training. A few seats still remain in spring classes that begin Jan. 21 and Jan. 22. The course has a prerequisite, “Introduction to Paralegal Studies” (LGS 111), which still has seats available. To register, visit http://www.aacc.edu/recreg/waystoregister.cfm and follow the easy steps.

The Maryland court system is piloting its Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) project in Anne Arundel County. Using an integrated case management system, courts will collect, store and process records electronically as cases move through the courts. The AACC course introduces students to that electronic system and gives them hands-on experience accessing the new e-filing system.

AACC’s Paralegal Studies degree and certificate programs are approved by the American Bar Association. Degree options include business, general practice and litigation. Certificates can be earned in those three options or a nurse paralegal option. For information about the program, visit http://www.aacc.edu/legalstudies.
