Victor Hoskins on New Carrollton, a new football stadium and why bears drown in the ocean

In February 2011, three weeks into his tenure as D.C.’s deputy mayor for planning and economic development, I sat down with Victor Hoskins to talk strategy and projects. He spoke of discipline, priorities and realistic timelines, but there wasn’t much to say otherwise.

“When I dropped into the District it was like I landed from another planet,” Hoskins said Thursday, from the offices of the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corp.

Hoskins left the District in June to take a top economic development post in the administration of Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker. Already familiar with the county’s key corridors (especially those that run between D.C. and Prince George’s), its Metro sites, and several of its most important economic initiatives, it was an easier transition.
