AAWDC Announces New RFP for Out-of-School Youth Services

Millersville, MD (August 14, 2014) – Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC) announced the re-opening of its Request for Proposal (RFP) for out-of-school youth services from November 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015. Applications from youth-serving nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, educational institutions, and private businesses as well as organizations currently serving or with the capacity to serve Anne Arundel County are eligible for grant funding and are encouraged to apply.

“AAWDC YouthWorks! approach to youth workforce development prioritizes future employer demand and equipping young adults with the essential skills they need to succeed. One of the best ways to get a highly qualified workforce is to invest in the development of young workers; participate directly in their training and socialization at the workplace through partnerships with employers, community partners, and educators and then place in employment the youth who have proven themselves to be productive at the end of their training period.” said Kirkland J. Murray, President and CEO of AAWDC.

“The call for out-of-school programming is intended to widen the lens and build a more finely articulated pathway system – one that is richly diversified to align with the needs and interests of today’s young people and better designed to meet the needs of a 21st century economy.” added Shannon McGarry, Director of Youth Program at AAWDC. “Equipping youth with occupationally relevant skills and credentials provide excellent pathways for many young people to enter the adult workforce.”

Responses must be submitted via mail or in-person delivery by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014. The RFP can be accessed at www.aawdc.org, or by email request. Announcements of funding will be made on or before October 20, 2014.

All potential grantees are encouraged to attend the bidder’s conference on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. To RSVP for the bidders conference or if you have any questions, please contact Shannon McGarry, Director of Youth program, at smcgarry@aawdc.org or 410-766-5212 ext. 105.
